Facebook has appointed Colin Stretch as vice president and general counsel, effective July 5. Stretch will replace Ted Ullyot, who has served as vice president and general counsel since October 2008.
Stretch, who joined the company in 2010, most recently served as deputy general counsel. In his new role, he will oversee Facebook's legal and security departments.
In November 2011, Stretch served as lead negotiator for the company's settlement with the Federal Trade Commission over charges that Facebook deceived consumers by telling them they could keep their information on Facebook private and then repeatedly allowed it to be shared and made public.
Prior to joining Facebook in 2010, Stretch was a partner at law firm Kellogg Huber Hansen Todd Evans & Figel. Earlier in his career, he was a clerk for Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer and U. S. Court of Appeals Judge Laurence Silberman.
