  1. Experience and clips that demonstrate an understanding of complex financial and legal matters;

  2. Familiarity with the regulatory requirements of—and the governance standards for—U.S. public companies;

  3. Ability to penetrate regulatory agencies and standard-setters—including the Securites and Exchange Commission, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, the Financial Accounting Standards Board, and others—to uncover stories of critical importance to U.S. public companies;

  4. A high level of comfort dealing with directors and officers of public companies;

  5. Exceptional writing skills, including an ability to demystify thorny concepts and convoluted "legalese";

  6. Excellent analytical skills—experience with financial statements, SEC filings (e.g., EDGAR) and related disclosure documents and systems is preferred;

  7. Familiarity with the grammar, punctuation and language-usage guidelines promulgated by The AP Stylebook;

  8. An ability to recommend proactively—and chase aggressively—story ideas;

  9. The capacity to work under extreme deadlines—usually fewer than five business days; and

  10. Attention to detail.
