In December, the Washington Post reported that Rep. Blake Fahrenthold (R-TX) had used $84,000 from an obscure Treasury Department fund meant to cover workplace harassment allegations against lawmakers. The fund doesn’t get used often, but it does rankle the public to know that they are paying to make representatives’ sexual misconduct allegations go away, especially when the #MeToo movement is both long overdue and only just getting started, and especially when so much of Washington conducts itself like it’s lost in an endless fraternity party.
