SEC Breaks Down Enforcement, Other Stats for FY 2010

Yesterday, the SEC released its 172-page "FY 2010 Performance and Accountability Report." Here are the enforcement-related highlights for the SEC in FY 2010, along with a few other interesting items:

  • The SEC returned approximately $2.2 billion dollars to investors as a result of SEC enforcement actions.
  • In FY 2010, the SEC's total budget was $1.571 million, a 62 percent increase over the FY 2009 level of $970 million. This includes the $452 million Investor Protection Fund for whistleblowers under Dodd-Frank.
  • The SEC employed a total of 3,748 full-time employees in FY 2010. This was an increase of 106 full-time employees over FY 2009.
  • ?The SEC set a goal for itself to be ranked in the Top 5 in the federal government's Best Places to Work ranking. Alas, after being ranked #5, #3...
