Walmart FCPA Costs Hit Half-Billion Dollar Mark

Walmart disclosed in a securities filing last week that it spent considerably less this time around than the same period last year on costs associated with its global investigation into possible violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, but that doesn't take away from the fact that its FCPA costs have now supassed the half-billion dollar mark.

The cost of the investigation is piling up fast. Walmart shelled out a whopping $439 million in total costs for fiscal years 2013 and 2014 for compliance enhancements and investigation costs related to possible violations of the FCPA. Broken down, these costs amounted to $282 million in fiscal year 2014, in addition to the $157 million spent in fiscal year 2013.
