Note from the editor: As compliance evolves, so does CW

Dave Lefort | April 30, 2018

Dave LefortThe editorial objectives of Compliance Week remain unchanged as I begin my journey as editor in chief, but how our mission to inform and educate manifests itself in the pages of our magazine, on our Website and in your inboxes is a process that is evolving as the field of compliance expands and reader habits change.

We know your jobs as compliance professionals are increasingly complex. The current administration in Washington is reimagining regulation across the board, new technologies are leaving you vulnerable to new dangers, data privacy and protection are taking on added importance (and potentially new regulation), and reputational risk has found its way into the everyday vernacular. If it feels like the challenges are coming at you from all sides, you’re right … and you’re not alone.

We’re here to help, and we’re listening. We want to give you, the practitioner, more of a voice in our coverage. We strive to be an active part of your community, a valuable partner as we collectively wrap our arms around this changing landscape.

Fittingly, this point of emphasis in our coverage comes as we reveal the Top Minds Class of 2018, our third annual profile of 12 compliance practitioners we’ve identified as the best and brightest thought leaders in the fields of governance, risk, compliance, and ethics. Get to know the first six honorees in this special section and stay tuned in the next few weeks as we introduce the remaining six.

In the coming weeks and months, you can also expect the following from our coverage …

  • Aside from our Top Minds, we’ll feature more insights from thought leaders and subject matter experts, people who can give you actionable advice and best practices on challenges you face every day.
  • We’ll continuously take the pulse of what’s trending in the industry, and we’ll re-establish an editorial board made up of influencers and leaders to help us do so. We’ll also examine internal analytics to help us better understand what’s most important to you and use that data to make smart decisions on the stories we pursue.
  • We’ll be polling you, our readers, more often, and sharing the results of those surveys to help you better understand how others in your position are solving problems.
  • In a few weeks, we’ll roll out a new template for e-mail newsletters that features a clean, easily scannable layout and a smart categorization of stories. We’re retiring the topic-specific newsletters you’ve been receiving and are replacing them with an all-inclusive overview of what’s important in the world of GRC, three mornings per week.
  • The revamped newsletter will coincide with a more aggressive, responsive publishing schedule on our Website. Starting soon, you should expect to see fresh content at the top of complianceweek.com every weekday. We will also be experimenting with new content types and fresh ways to tell important stories.

There will be more enhancements down the line as we hone our audience-focused approach, but like most changes, it will be gradual. Consider this a ground-breaking of sorts, not a ribbon cutting.

We continue to be open to your suggestions and ideas, and I plan on personally trying to meet as many of you as I can at Compliance Week’s annual conference in Washington, D.C., next month. I look forward to sharing more in the coming months. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly at dave.lefort@complianceweek.com.
