Uber has been in the media spotlight recently, first for running afoul of President Trump’s travel ban by lifting surge pricing for Uber drivers who wanted to take advantage of an opportunity at New York’s NFK airport, where local taxi drivers were striking in solidarity with those protesting the travel ban. But it’s latest public issue is far more serious, with a viral blog post from a former employee alleging that she not only experienced sexual harrassment while working at Uber, but that management clearly covered it up. Amid other allegations of toxic workplace culture issues at a company sometimes described as having a great product but being a terrible place to work, the public backlash on this sexual harrassment issue was great enough to force Uber’s CEO (himself no stranger to public controversy) to make an open and raw appeal to his workforce, pledging to address the issue.
