We stood there in line at the supermarket, me and a woman who, for the purposes of this column, will be known as Ms. Compliance Week. I was doing my usual grocery shopping at the local store of a national supermarket chain, and when we arrived at the checkout terminal, the clerk asked me for my courtesy discount card.
