UnitedHealth Group is being investigated by the Department of Justice for possible Medicare fraud, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. The move, which has not so far been announced publicly, follows the sudden departure of its CEO.
The WSJ’s report late Wednesday evening said the probe had been active “since at least last summer,” which would stretch to before the public assassination of the company’s UnitedHealthcare division CEO Brian Thompson last December. Andrew Witty had been CEO of parent UnitedHealth Group since 2021 until Tuesday, when the company announced he was leaving immediately “for personal reasons.”
