The Department of Justice (DOJ) has ended its six-month enforcement pause of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and closed half of the department’s legacy bribery cases as part of a review of the law. Going forward, the DOJ will follow a revised set of priorities to open new investigations into foreign bribery violations that align with President Donald Trump’s political views.
In a DOJ memo issued Monday, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche wrote that the DOJ will prioritize four types of misconduct to launch FCPA investigations, including the payment of bribes:
