Artivest, a provider of premier alternative funds and technology solutions, has named Kamal Jafarnia as general counsel and chief compliance officer.

Jafarnia brings more than 25 years of experience as an attorney and compliance professional to this role, having advised public and private companies—including alternative investment program sponsors—on complex securities offerings, regulatory and compliance issues, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance.

Prior to joining Artivest, Jafarnia held a multi-faceted role as senior vice president with New York-based W.P. Carey, a diversified real estate asset manager and investment trust (REIT) that has more than $23 billion in total assets under management (as of June 30). During his tenure as SVP with W.P. Carey, Kamal simultaneously served as executive vice president, chief compliance officer, and general counsel of Carey Financial and as SVP and chief compliance officer of Carey Credit Advisors.

Previous to W.P. Carey, Jafarnia served as Counsel in the REIT and securities practice at the international law firm of Greenberg Traurig. He also counseled funds and broker-dealers as a member of the financial services and products practice group with Alston & Bird.
