When it comes to data privacy rights in the United States, it’s a brave, new world for individuals and companies, Marian Agarwal, partner at law firm Morrison Foerster, said Thursday during Compliance Week’s virtual Cyber Risk & Data Privacy Summit.
Thirteen states have approved comprehensive—and different—data privacy laws. New Hampshire is poised to become the 14th state, once the governor signs a bill approved by the legislature.
The laws are designed to grant more data privacy rights to individuals, including rules about disclosing data collection, protecting data, and regularly assessing those protection programs.
