Jas Athwal, chief accounting officer at Facebook, announced his decision to resign from his position after nearly nine years with the company, Facebook announced in a securities filing. Athwal's resignation will be effective Feb. 17, 2017.

Athwal will continue to serve as the company's chief accounting officer until that date, during which time the company expects to complete its year-end audit and file its annual report on Form 10-K. In the meantime, Facebook said it plans to launch a search for a new chief accounting officer. Athwal will assist with the transition.
