Multinational conglomerate SoftBank Group on Sept. 10 announced the appointment of Tim Mackey as group compliance officer of SoftBank.

Mackey, who joined SoftBank as deputy general counsel in November 2018, is based in Tokyo. For the past six months, he has additionally served as head of the compliance department in Tokyo, as well as regional general counsel of SoftBank Group International for the Japan, Asia Pacific, and India regions.

In his new role, Mackey will be responsible for overseeing SoftBank’s compliance function on a global basis. He will report to Robert Townsend, chief legal officer and senior vice president of SoftBank and chief legal officer of SoftBank Group International.

Mackey’s new appointment comes the same month former SoftBank Chief Compliance and Group Compliance Officer Chad Fentress updated his LinkedIn profile to show he is no longer at SoftBank and has started his own consultancy. Fentress also left his position as a board and audit committee member at WeWork. Fentress had been at SoftBank since October 2018, according to his profile.

Mackey’s appointment is subject to approval by SoftBank’s board of directors at its next meeting.
