Cryptocurrency exchange company Bitstamp announced the appointment of Thomas Hook as its U.S. chief compliance officer.

Hook has specialized in anti-money laundering (AML) and sanctions compliance in both traditional financial and digital asset institutions. He was formerly the vice president of risk and compliance at BlueSnap and headed AML and sanctions compliance at Circle, where he oversaw the global compliance and controls program across all products.

His career began as an assistant district attorney in Cybercrime and Identity Theft Bureau in Manhattan.

Hook’s appointment is one of several new roles Bitstamp is adding this year as it doubles its U.S. headcount.
