Cooper Standard, a supplier of sealing and fluid handling systems and components for the transportation and industrial markets, announced the appointment of MaryAnn Peterson Kanary as senior vice president, chief legal officer and secretary.

Kanary, a former associate general counsel and head of global legal compliance at the company, will lead legal and compliance and report directly to Jeffrey Edwards, chairman and chief executive officer.

Most recently, she served in roles of increasing responsibility at Barton Malow and its subsidiaries, including chief legal officer, corporate secretary, trustee, and managing director.

She previously worked in-house at Toyoda Gosei Americas and Masco Corp. and in private practice at Butzel Long and Goodwin Procter.

Kanary succeeds Joanna Totsky, who departed in June to serve as general counsel at The Toro Company.
