Cousins Properties, a real estate investment trust company, disclosed in a quarterly filing this month that Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer John Harris has formally notified the company of his decision to retire, effective March 2020.

Harris has served in this role since joining the company in February 2005. “There were no disagreements between the company and Harris on any matters relating to the company’s operations, policies, or practices,” the company stated in the Form 8-K.

The company also announced his replacement: Jeffrey Symes will join the company on Feb. 3 as SVP and will succeed Harris as chief accounting officer, effective March 2020.

Symes currently serves as chief accounting officer at Learfield/IMG College, a position he has held since April 2018. From April 2002 through August 2017, Symes served in multiple roles at FelCor Lodging Trust, including as chief accounting officer and treasurer.

Following the acquisition of Felcor by RLJ Lodging Trust, from August 2017 through March 2018, Symes served as an integration team lead for the post-acquisition RLJ Lodging Trust. Prior to FelCor, Symes was employed by KPMG for 14 years.
