Dartmouth College announced the appointment of Alejandro Diaz as its first chief compliance officer. Diaz previously served as the inaugural CCO at Temple University, which named his interim successor as Susan Smith.

At Dartmouth, Diaz will report to Executive Vice President Rick Mills and the chair of the board of trustees’ audit and oversight committee.

As CCO, he will oversee all aspects of how Dartmouth complies with federal and state laws, rules, and regulations and other external regulatory requirements. In that capacity, he will design and implement a compliance structure to support existing compliance efforts throughout campus.

Smith, who previously served as senior counsel with Temple, will serve as the school’s interim chief compliance officer, reporting to the board of trustees. She brings more than 25 years of experience in higher education and governance.
