OceanFirst Financial Corp. announced the appointment of David Berninger as executive vice president and chief risk officer, effective Oct. 11.

Berninger will succeed Grace Vallacchi, who is retiring.

With nearly three decades of experience in the banking and financial services industry, Berninger previously served as chief risk officer for the U.S. region at the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He previously held titles that include deputy chief risk officer at Valley National Bank, chief operating officer at Hudson City Savings Bank, and managing director at Société Générale.
