U.K. bank Standard Chartered announced the appointment of Sadia Ricke as group chief risk officer, effective Feb. 1, 2023.

Ricke will be based in London upon regulatory approval. She will report to Standard Chartered Group Chief Executive Bill Winters and join the management team.

She replaces Mark Smith, who is set to retire Dec. 31 after a 40-year career in financial services, the last seven of which were spent with Standard Chartered.

Ricke has served as group chief risk officer at French bank Société Générale since January 2021. Her departure is effective Nov. 30, according to a press release.

Ricke started at Société Générale in 1994. She held various roles in credit and structured finance before moving to Hong Kong as head of global finance for Asia Pacific in 2015. She was appointed group country head and head of coverage and investment banking for the United Kingdom in 2017. In 2019, Ricke became deputy chief risk officer and then group chief risk officer.

Her Société Générale successor will be announced at a later date.
