Volkswagen Group announced the appointment of Dirk Voeste as chief sustainability officer. He succeeds Ralf Pfitzner, who plans to pursue new opportunities outside the company.

Voeste most recently served as senior vice president at BASF in the sustainability, regulatory, and public affairs operating segment for more than 20 years.

He also previously worked as vice president of BASF’s corporate sustainability department. In this role, Voeste developed and implemented the group’s global sustainability strategy and identified social and sustainability issues across all major business and decision-making processes. This included portfolio management and evaluation of investment decisions according to sustainability criteria.
