Zurich Insurance Group has named Peter Giger as group chief risk officer, effective Oct. 1. The appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

Serving as a member of Zurich’s executive committee, Giger will succeed Alison Martin, who was recently appointed chief executive officer, Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) and Bank Distribution.

Giger will join Zurich after four years as head of the insurance division and deputy CEO of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA). He left FINMA in September 2018.

Prior to joining FINMA, Giger held various executive positions at Zurich from 2002 to 2014, most recently as CFO of its General Insurance business from 2010 to 2014. Prior to Zurich, he was head of structured finance at Swiss Re.
