More companies are facing an ethical dilemma—and potentially a legal one too—when it comes to hiring individuals connected to government officials.
Consider this scenario: A company chooses between two job applicants, both well qualified for the position, though one has connections that can open doors potentially leading to new business and the other does not. It hires the one with the contacts. Does the move inherently suggest that the company expects the new employee to return the favor by using those contacts to help secure new business? What if the contacts are government officials? What if the employee is a close relative of the official? Is this edging close to bribery?
