Liberty Tax, a tax preparation company, has appointed James Wheaton to the newly created position of chief compliance officer.

Wheaton, who currently serves as general counsel of both Liberty Tax Service and of its principal subsidiary, JTH Tax, will continue as general counsel of Liberty Tax and vice president of legal and governmental affairs. Wheaton joined the company in 2011, after serving as external corporate counsel since 1998.
