Marsh McLennan, a $13 billion conglomerate with large insurance and consulting businesses, has promoted Chief Compliance Officer Scott Gilbert to be the company’s new chief information officer.

Gilbert had been CCO at Marsh since 2005, and was the first person to hold the then-newly created job for the company. He came to Marsh from General Electric, where he had been chief compliance counsel.

In his new role as CIO—also a newly created job at Marsh—Gilbert will develop new IT systems and implement cost-effective technologies. Gilbert will continue to oversee Marsh’s Innovation Centre and continue to be responsible for the company’s global business resiliency and security operations. He will report to President and CEO Dan Glaser and will remain a member of the company’s executive committee.

Marsh also announced that Carey Roberts, deputy general counsel, will take over the chief compliance officer role—although she will continue to be deputy general counsel as well, and still report to General Counsel Peter Beshar.
