The New York Power Authority has named Soubhagya Parija as chief risk officer to administer all aspects of risk management and insurance at the state public power organization. Parija joins NYPA from Walmart, where he was a director and oversaw the global compliance risk strategy for the retail giant’s operations in 26 countries.

Parija, who will report to NYPA President and Chief Executive Officer Gil Quiniones, also will work closely with Jennifer Faulkner, who joined NYPA earlier this year as senior vice president of internal audit. Faulkner oversees evaluations of the effectiveness of financial, information technology and operating controls at NYPA.

Before Wal-Mart, Parija worked at Signet Jewelers, where he developed the company’s enterprise risk management program, which included regulatory compliance. He also spent six years at electric power holding company Duke Energy, where he served in a variety of roles, including director of enterprise risk management and portfolio analysis. Parija also worked at NTPC, India’s largest utility.
