OFAC cracks down on Iran’s oil trade with new sanctions sweep

Treasury Department

More than 50 people and 50 ships connected to a top Iranian official were added to the U.S. Treasury’s sanctions list on Wednesday, according to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

The move is designed to cut the flow of U.S. dollars to Iran, which is considered a hostile nation and a security threat.

All of the persons and entities are connected to Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, the son of Ali Shamkhani, a key advisor of the Supreme Leader of Iran, according to OFAC.
