The U.K. government promised to introduce Sustainability Reporting Standards (U.K. SRS) in its manifesto. Almost a year after it came to power, it launched a consultation on June 25 on draft plans for these standards, which are largely based on those of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB)
The government is also asking for views on greater regulatory oversight of third-party assurance services for sustainability-related financial disclosures. The public and industry can provide input to the consultations until Sept. 17.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves spoke of the government’s ambition to “deliver a world-leading sustainable finance framework” in her Mansion House speech in November 2024. This included consulting “on economically significant companies disclosing information using future U.K. Sustainability Reporting Standards.”
