As the U.S. relaxes some Russian sanctions to ease oil flows, the U.K. government has published a new Strategic Approach to Sanctions Enforcement, indicating that it does not intend to relax its focus on prosecuting sanctions breaches. EU leaders also pushed back on the U.S. temporary lifting of some sanctions, indicating that they would not follow suit.

U.K. and EU leaders from Germany, France, and Norway rejected the principle of loosening sanctions regimes for the sake of oil. President Emmanuel Macron of France said, “Nothing will deter us from supporting Ukraine,” at a press conference on March 13.
