SNC-Lavalin has appointed Hartland Paterson as general counsel, effective Sept. 10. He will report to President and CEO Robert Card.

Paterson will oversee both the legal and ethics and compliance functions of the engineering and construction giant to facilitate “tighter coordination and links between these complementary functions that work in tandem across all facets of the business,” the company said.

Paterson brings both legal and ethics and compliance executive-level experience in Canada and internationally, with extensive experience in commercial and corporate law, M&A, joint ventures and financing. He joins SNC-Lavalin after 14 years with CAE, where he held the position of general counsel, chief compliance officer and secretary.

Previously, he was associate general counsel of legal and public policy at Cable & Wireless in Japan.
