Federated Investors has appointed Stephen Van Meter as chief compliance officer, effective July 30. Also appointed chief compliance officer of the Federated family of funds, Van Meter will oversee policies and procedures that are designed to assure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements throughout Federated and the funds. He replaces retiring CCO Brian Bouda.

Van Meter joined Federated's compliance department in 2011, coming directly from an eight-year tenure at the SEC, where he served as senior counsel in the Division of Investment Management, Office of Chief Counsel, since 2007. Prior to that, he was senior counsel in the Division of Enforcement. Additional experience includes a year as law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, and two years as an attorney with Reed Smith. Van Meter earned his bachelor's degree at Loyola University Maryland and his juris doctorate at University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
