SolarWinds, a network management software vendor, was the victim of a Russian cyberattack in 2020, and the company’s handling of the attack led to a lawsuit by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Last week, the commission decided to dismiss the case, which has been a common move by the Trump administration.

The SEC filed a joint stipulation with SolarWinds and the company’s Chief Information Security Officer, Timothy G. Brown, to dismiss the case with prejudice on Nov. 20, according to a litigation release from the commission. The release said the decision is “in the exercise of its discretion” and “does not necessarily reflect the Commission’s position on any other case.”
