Waste Management has appointed Darren Shade as vice president and chief accounting officer, the company announced in a Form 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Shade succeeds Don Carpenter, who anounced he will be retiring following the filing of the company’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2016.

Carpenter is expected to remain with the company into its fourth quarter to facilitate an orderly transition to Shade.

Shade joined the company in July 2016 as vice president of accounting. Prior to joining the Company, Shade was employed by Phillips 66 Company, a diversified energy manufacturing and logistics company, as director, midstream planning and budgeting from December 2015 to June 2016 and as senior consultant, accounting policy from July 2013 to November 2015.

Shade began his career at Ernst & Young in 1997, having last served in the position of senior manager in the assurance practice from October 2004 to June 2013.
