Worldwide Express, a global logistics franchisor, has named Richard Kolman as general counsel and chief compliance officer.

In this capacity, Kolman manages the legal and franchise compliance departments, including overseeing network compliance with system standards. Kolman also works closely within the senior management team of Worldwide Express, offering strategic input and legal options for the company’s key initiatives.

Kolman joins Worldwide Express from American Driveline Systems, a portfolio company of American Capital that owns the AAMCO transmission and automotive repair franchise system and several other companies. Most recently, he served as vice president of law and general counsel.

Kolman brings to Worldwide Express a unique combination of top level experiences in the franchise industry. Beginning his franchise legal career as the youngest attorney in the legal department of McDonald’s Corporation, he handled a wide variety of transactional and dispute resolution responsibilities for the world’s largest and most recognized franchise system.

Following his years with McDonald’s, Kolman served as senior franchise counsel for United Parcel Service and played a critical legal role in UPS’s Project Gold Shield, the largest-ever rebranding in franchise and retail history—Mail Boxes Etc. into The UPS Store.
