On Monday, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) submitted a proposal to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) that would rescind its climate-related disclosure rule, approved in 2024. Commissioner Hester Peirce had raised concerns about the rule and views the U.S.’s pullback on ESG regulations as a competitive edge over other countries.

Commissioner Peirce was the keynote speaker Tuesday for Compliance Week’s National Conference, held at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. She says the proposal is moving forward, and she appreciates those who were trying to figure out and apply this difficult rule.
