Many experienced compliance professionals say executives have approached their roles dismissively. “I don’t want to talk about anything that doesn’t bring money in the door,” one conference participant remembered a senior executive saying to them. 

That’s particularly disheartening to hear at times like these, when regulatory policy around the world is rapidly changing. The European Union is stepping up reporting requirements  and antitrust enforcement. Meanwhile, U.S. agencies say they’re deprioritizing corruption investigations  and consumer protections.
