A compliance officer is facing charges for laundering $7 million in a complex legal case in Switzerland. Swiss prosecutors have charged Credit Suisse, and one of its former employees, with failing to maintain adequate controls.
Credit Suisse already had to pay a settlement to Mozambique for Credit Suisse’s involvement in a $2 billion ship-financing dispute, dubbed the “tuna bonds” scandal, in 2023. The current case, which now involves new Credit Suisse owner UBS, is part of this larger scandal, which crashed the Mozambique economy in 2013.
