U.S. financial services company Ally Financial (previously known as GMAC) has appointed Scott Stengel as general counsel, effective May 31. He will assume the role from William Solomon, who will retire after more than 27 years with the company, effective Sept. 30. 

Stengel, who will report to Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Brown, will have responsibility for all legal and corporate governance matters. Stengel joins Ally from UMB Financial, where he was the executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.  Prior to his time at UMB Financial, he was a partner at King & Spalding and a partner at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.
