Embattled retailer American Apparel reshuffled its board of directors last week, with the appointment of four new members, following the termination of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dov Charney, who currently faces several allegations of sexual misconduct. Among the new board members includes the company's first ever female director.

Five of American Apparel's seven current board members resigned this month. Remaining as independent directors are Allan Mayer and David Danziger, who each will continue to serve as co-chairman of the board.

Filling the vacancies on the board resulting from the resignations are:

Colleen Brown, former president and CEO of Fisher Communications;

Joseph Magnacca, CEO of RadioShack since February 2013;

Thomas Sullivan, managing partner of financial advisory services firm Smallwood Partners; and

David Glazek, partner with investment firm Standard General.

American Apparel also announced the formation of a special "suitability committee," whose purpose will be to oversee the continuing investigation into Charney's alleged misconduct. The members of the suitability committee will be Danziger, as well as one Standard General designee and one joint designee. Based on the findings of the investigation, the suitability committee will determine whether it is appropriate for Charney to be reinstated as CEO, or serve as an officer or employee of the company or any of its subsidiaries, the company stated.
