$378.8 billion Wal-Mart Stores, the world’s largest retailer, has appointed Tom Mars to serve in the newly created roles of executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Wal-Mart, United States. In this role, Mars will handle human resources operations for the division as well as oversee the compliance department.

Previously general counsel of Wal-Mart, Mars will be succeeded in that role by Jeff Gearhart, who also will become an executive vice president. Gearhart will lead the department that handles all legal matters affecting Wal-Mart’s domestic and international markets. He previously served as vice president and general counsel of the company’s corporate unit and most recently served as senior vice president and deputy general counsel for Wal-Mart.
