Goldman Sachs General Counsel Karen Seymour will retire from the financial services firm at the end of March, according to an internal announcement from CEO David Solomon. Seymour will rejoin Sullivan & Cromwell as a partner.

Seymour joined Goldman Sachs as a partner and co-general counsel and a member of the management committee in 2018 and has served in her current role since 2019. In her time with the firm, Seymour resolved a number of important matters and was key in negotiating the 1MDB settlement, according to Solomon.

“We have benefitted from Karen’s rigorous and disciplined approach, her dedicated work ethic and her wise counsel,” Solomon wrote. “She made significant strides in globally aligning and restructuring the Legal Department, demonstrating a strong commitment to her team, and advancing diversity and inclusion at the firm.”

Seymour had joined Goldman Sachs from Sullivan & Cromwell. Prior to that, she held several roles at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, including as chief of the Criminal Division.
