Car rental service Hertz Global Holdings announced this week Kenny Cheung assumed the role of chief financial officer, effective Sept. 24.

Cheung, recently promoted to executive vice president of finance, chief operational finance and restructuring officer, succeeds R. Eric Esper, who resigned to become chief accounting officer and controller at United Natural Foods, effective Nov. 22. Esper will remain with Hertz as chief accounting officer until Nov. 1 to assist in the transition of his responsibilities.

Esper joined Hertz in August after his predecessor, Jamere Jackson, left to become finance chief at AutoZone.

Previously, Cheung served as senior vice president of global financial planning & analysis and chief financial officer of North America at Hertz. He joined the company in December 2018.

Hertz filed for bankruptcy in May, in part due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The company’s former CEO, Mark Frissora, was charged with aiding and abetting accounting misconduct by the Securities and Exchange Commission last month.
