Insurance giant American International Group (AIG) announced the appointment of Patricia Walsh as executive vice president and general counsel, effective Dec. 1.

Walsh will report to AIG Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Peter Zaffino and serve on the group’s executive leadership team. As general counsel, she will be responsible for AIG’s legal, compliance, and regulatory functions, besides leading government affairs for the company.

Earlier, she was with Stripe, where she was general counsel and corporate secretary and focused on all aspects of the company’s legal and regulatory affairs. She served as executive vice president and chief legal officer of Voya Financial and before that as deputy general counsel at Cigna Corp. and MassMutual Life Insurance Company.
