The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced the appointment of longtime federal prosecutor Ian McGinley as the agency’s new director of enforcement.

McGinley spent more than a decade as a prosecutor at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), where he co-led the Complex Frauds and Cybercrime Unit. He also served as a senior member of the securities and commodities task force.

At SDNY, McGinley led criminal prosecutions involving a wide range of white-collar crimes, including market manipulation, insider trading, cryptocurrency fraud, bank fraud, and cybercrime.

Most recently, he served as a partner at law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld, where he handled criminal and regulatory matters.
