Pangea Money Transfer, a mobile-centric money-transfer platform, announced it has appointed Alex Levine as general counsel and chief compliance officer.

Levine will spearhead Pangea’s compliance and risk operations and will lead all regulatory affairs for the company’s global operations. His unique background also allows him to advise on the business’ product development side, providing strategic scenario analysis and insight into the cryptocurrency market.

Levine comes to Pangea with almost two decades of experience in the public and private sectors, including roles as a litigator and regulatory adviser for financial clients. He previously spent five years working in the U.S. federal government in senior roles for the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, where he aided in response to the credit crisis and the implementation of regulations under the Dodd-Frank Act.

More recently, Levine has been actively involved in building out legal, compliance, and regulatory frameworks for financial services and FinTech companies. Through these positions, including serving as chief regulatory officer at TrustToken and Head of Legal at LedgerX, he also gained exposure to cryptocurrency from both an operational and legal standpoint.

As Levine moves forward in his role at Pangea, the company said, he will help scale company operations while also helping Pangea expand into new geographies, form strategic partnerships, and take advantage of new tech.
