Global mining and metals company Rio Tinto has appointed Isabelle Deschamps as chief legal officer & external affairs.

Deschamps succeeds Barbara Levi in the position and will join the company in October.

Deschamps is currently group general counsel at AkzoNobel, where she is responsible for all legal, integrity, compliance, and intellectual property management duties. She also is a member of the executive committee. Before joining AkzoNobel, Deschamps worked for six years at Unilever in the United Kingdom and The Netherlands, where she had accountability for legal and compliance at its European businesses and its Food & Refreshment division worldwide.

Deschamps also held various positions in Switzerland and globally at Nestlé. She began her career at a law firm in Montreal, Canada.
