Australian gaming company The Star Entertainment Group announced the appointment of Scott Saunders as chief risk officer.

Scott brings more than 30 years of risk and compliance experience with a focus on anti-money laundering and other financial crime risks and controls.

Prior to joining The Star, Scott served as general manager, financial crime and chief compliance officer at Westpac for three years. Before that, he worked at Macquarie Group, where he was responsible for enterprise and financial crime compliance.

The hiring comes on the heels of a record AUD$100 million (then-U.S. $62 million) fine in October against The Star, which operates Australia’s second largest casino, for failures to prevent money laundering at its Sydney location.
