Office Depot, a global provider of office products, services, and solutions, has promoted Steve Calkins to executive vice president and chief legal officer. He replaces Elisa Garcia, who recently left the company.

Calkins, who joined Office Depot in September 2003, most recently served as vice president and deputy general counsel of the company. Previously, he was in private law practice. Calkins will report to the CEO and serve on the company’s executive committee.

At this time, Office Depot's current Chief Executive Officer Roland Smith plans to retire. Smith will continue to serve as CEO until a successor is named, which is expected by the end of first quarter 2017, according to the company.

New board member

Additionally, Office Depot this month appointed Kristin Campbell to its board of directors. Additionally, she will serve on the audit committee.

Since June 2011, Campbell has served as executive vice president and general counsel for Hilton Worldwide Holdings, where she is responsible for legal, compliance, and government relations. Prior to joining Hilton Worldwide, Campbell spent 18 years at Staples, where she was most recently senior vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary. Campbell has also practiced law at Boston-based firms Goodwin Proctor and Rackemann and Sawyer & Brewster.
