Companies look set to increase their spend on AI technologies during 2026, but not every investment is likely to pay off. In fact, most appear to offer little return quickly.
According to a report published last August by MIT called The GenAI Divide: State of AI in Business 2025, most AI initiatives aimed at driving rapid revenue growth actually deliver little to no measurable impact on a company’s financial bottom line. Instead, only about 5% of AI pilot programs spur financial growth quickly.
