A drug manufacturer will pay more than $46 million and implement significant compliance program improvements to settle allegations that it offered kickbacks to doctors who prescribed its kidney drug.
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) brought both civil and criminal charges against Veloxis Pharmaceuticals, which manufactures Envarsus XR, a kidney transplant immunosuppression drug. The charges related to a broad kickback scheme in which it offered alcohol and excessive meals to doctors who prescribed its kidney drug to Medicare and Medicaid patients, the DOJ said.
